marriage equality

The Australian Humanist movement strongly supports marriage equality. We welcome the strong  postal survey result in favor of marriage equality and welcome the legislating of marriage equality into law in Australia in late 2017.

All adults should be free to marry the consenting (adult) partner of their choice. Our society should be organized  to show equal basic respect for all its members by providing equal access to the institution of marriage. Supporting marriage equality is about respecting the inherent human dignity of all people.

Supporting marriage equality is part of putting humanism into action.

This page provides links to statements and materials developed by CAHS and Australia's humanist societies as part pf the campaign that occurred in Australia for marriage equality. Now that the campaign has been won this page is more of an archive page. Some of the materials it contains may still be of use to people formulating arguments in other areas or looking at how humanist arguments are developed.
